Off to the Races

As will be evident to any of you who actually still monitor this blog, my updates have been and will continue to be sporadic, at best. The reason is that, unlike most of your average mouth-breathing overgrown 12 year olds who spend untold amounts of time designing and updating blogs for the sole purpose of force-feeding an already bloated and trash-filled internet, I have both a life and a full time job, and I do not live in a single room above my parents' garage.

Speaking of my parents -- who are after all baby Sean's grandparents -- they were here and are gone again. They spent two weeks cleaning our house and buying us scones. If they are reading this, they should know that China called - they want their tea back. (Holy jumping cripes, but do they like their tea!!!)

One of the highlights of the visit was the near daily races between baby Sean and his Grandpa, starting at the stove in the kitchen and finishing, in a heap of giddy exhaustion, on or near the sofa in the living room. Here's a picture of them at the starting line.

Viva el bebé Sean en Cuba!

... or something like that. We are just back from a vacation in sunny, and still socialist Cuba.

1. Here is Sean getting into the spirit of the revolution, along with his ailing pal, Fidel.

2. Click the following link for the greatest insight you will ever find into the intricacies of Cuba's domestic politics and international relations: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnSXzCRG1mI

"It was nice having you in our Socialist Paradise."

"Until next post, keep it real, baby Sean."

YOUNG ATLAS OF OTTAWA

Atlas the baleful; he knows the depths of all the seas, and he, no other, holds the tall pillars that keep the sky and earth apart.

What a Difference a Year Makes

We had Sean's 1st birthday party on Saturday. It was a crazy, free-for-all, call-the-cops, anarchy-inducing, mind-bending spectacle of toddler-driven mayhem, that didn't let up until the break of 6:30 pm. Surrounded by his friends (that is, the friends his parents have chosen for him - namely, babies Ben, William, Duncan, and Sammy), Sean capped off an eventful first 12 months on planet Earth in the typically joyful, yet always pensive and observant mood that his mom and I have come to love.

It has been quite a year. Below are 3 photos: the first to remind everyone how Sean looked exactly one year ago (what the heck happened to his hair colour?); the second, to show how he looks these days amid Ottawa's autumnal foliage; and the third to show how his dad presumes Sean will look roughly 25 years from now.

Happy Birthday, my son.

Baby Sean Air Drums to "Spirit of Radio" by Rush

Friday, September 15, 2006

Take this, "Goodnight Moon!"

Why read about a comb and a brush and a bowl full of mush, when you can get insight into the latest developments in Abkhazia, governance reform in Guatemala, or The Economist's famous Big Mac index?

Baby Sean says: "I give The Economist (Dad's favourite weekly publication) full marks for its incisive commentary, balanced analyses, and unmatched edibility. You can really taste the journalistic integrity. And the newsprint ink."

PS - Just be patient about those promised videos. Dad has no time and it's harder than it looks.

A day at the track

Baby Sean picking "Dragonfly" to win at 15 to 1 odds, and his reaction the next morning when the bookie wouldn't pay up.
